First of all I’d like to thank all 50 participants who took my survey which was posted on here, approximately one week ago.
I was looking out for prosody in TV adverts and was looking out for the amount of people that can associate brands with their respective company by just hearing a sound clip, that of a jingle, poem, a piece of music or just a voice-over commentary.
Spare a minute to take the survey below. I am researching prosody in advertising, which is “the patterning of sound” (Cook, 1992, p. 120). I am specifically looking at jingles and music in television advertising.
By clicking below you agree for your results to be used in my dissertation research study. Please note, you have the right to withdraw at any moment during this survey and your selections will only be submitted upon clicking the ‘finish survey’ button, located at the end of the set of questions. NO other data will be collected such as names, age, etc and so will be anonymous when I collect the data after my quota has been reached.
It is multiple choice and you have as long as you wish to complete the survey. When you click the ‘play’ button, a sound clip will begin to play and all you have to do is associate it with its respective brand. There is also a ‘I don’t know’ option, and I strongly urge you not to just guess the answer as I need these to be as accurate as possible.
Thanks in advance, the results will be posted shortly so do check back.
Yes, yes, yes. I know what you’re going to think. “what the hell? I remember this site from a long, long time ago, I forgot all about the wondrous writings and musings of such an incredibly inspiring and brilliant author.”
Okay, enough blowing my own trumpet.
I don’t write much during term times, and the fact that I have a few days to write up an assignment of which I have only written my name, (you dream of this life, I’m sure of it) I thought this would get my creative juices flowing once again. Win-win situation. Boom.
Anyway, I know a lot of my regular readers won’t find this article applicable due to residing in various other parts of the world, but bear (roar) with me on this one… Continue reading →
I know I’m massively late on writing about something like this but I had to make sure that it was fully mainstream before I tackled it.
Let me give you guys a quick overview of what exactly this is.
Macmillan’s new campaign has truly gone viral with celebrities getting involved as well as your average Jack. The challenge is simple really. One person gets a bucket of ice-cold water poured onto them in exchange for a donation to charity and another records them and uploads the video to the net. Continue reading →
A Spanish Company called the Anar Foundation have placed posters publicly which show hidden messages only to children in an anti-child abuse campaign.
This ingenious tactic is something called ‘lenticular printing’ and only allows people of a certain height to see certain bits of an image. this basically means that adults cannot see the ‘hidden message’ placed in these posters around the country.
Does this guy remind anyone else of Ned Stark from Game of Thrones?
Oh I love writing articles in this category. Why Bother? has produced some of my personal favourite posts and are a joy to write.
I haven’t written one in a while but let’s see where this goes…
Let’s get serious with this alright, it’s a serious problem.
I always wondered how the whole concept of chain letters started.
A pathetic way to get somewhat naive and perhaps gullible people into falling for this despicable act of passing on a message to avoid something ridiculous happening to themselves or even worse, to make something good happen. Continue reading →
In an age largely reliant on the internet, there has been a massive change to people’s lifestyles in the last 15 years or so. That being said, We have generally seen an increasingly overweight human race… from what I hear that is (What do I know? I’m only 20). It’s not like I knew much when I was five, right? (Actually, I have heard I was a pretty smart kid but that is besides the point)…
Don’t worry, this isn’t an article that bashes the Internet and tells you to eat your vitamins, say your prayers and run around in the park for six hours. Instead I am focusing on something a lot more specific.
Note: This is my first proper article in a long time. So cut me some slack, let’s see where it takes us. (Oh, and the steps are at the end of this article).
Not me of course, come on people, be a little creative.
Well, it has been a long time since I’ve been on here. A very, very long time since I even logged in. To be honest I’m not sure if I really have enough in the tank to keep writing articles without getting slightly repetitive. There’s only so much one can write about eh? Continue reading →
This is a topic that can pretty much be under any category. For example, I could have easily made this into an Interpreted article, a My Thoughts On article, or even added it to the most popular category, Why Bother?
But then I remembered, I had promised that you guys got to dictate what format of article you wanted. Apparently, 50% of you wanted a funny rant. Great.
Fucking great.Humour doesn’t just grow on trees you know.
Anyway, to this week’s topic…
The way this term is thrown about over the internet, real life and in general conversation lately has started to bug me so much that I thought I’d write something on it.
“Interpreted” is the name of my brand new project on The EssWhyDee Blog. Well, I say project… I mean series… Note: This is just a test to see how the article goes down with my readers. I’m relying on that Thumbs up/down gauge to the top left of this post for you to tell me whether or not you enjoyed it or not. Please click one of the two (You don’t need to be logged in to do so).
Ah yes, this old classic.
Remember when life was shit? ….. – Ahhh yes, them good ol’ days.
Remember when times were hard? ….. – Yes. Wait, where exactly are you going with this?
Remember when life was giving you lemons? ….. – Lemons? The fuck. I never got any lemons.
One of your buddies comes along and tells you that one thing that you really want to hear when you’re down in the gutters. Continue reading →
Got some good news people… (YES, I can be positive sometimes, okay)
The EssWhyDee Blog has reached 100 Followers on WordPress!!
That, and I have been accepted into University! It’s a great step for me to take… What a gap year it has been so far, I’ve accomplished almost EVERYTHING that I had wanted to do this year and it certainly has been eventful. I’ve been out of the country twice, I’ve had paid jobs on 3 different occasions and have had some great experiences. Continue reading →
Over the past day or two, I have hyped up that I have a few good posts coming up on this blog. I do have the ideas written down, but nothing has been put on WordPress as of yet… I’m holding fire to space out my posts a bit more. Do expect some half decent, well thought out articles in this week and the next.
Not to say that they’ll be the best articles to come from my strange mind… But It’ll be good for a final push to get me about 5 more followers (you’ll soon see why).
I was thinking of a particular niche to write about. Apparently 40% of all blogs in 2011 were technology based (still finding the site where I read that). But anyway, I bit the fruit (No, not the forbidden fruit. Just the fruit).
If any of my followers are into technology, particularly smartphones… Check out my secondary blog, which is called EssWhyTech
The very first readers of The EssWhyDee Blog may or may not recall my first ever rant. It was titled “Blog 3 – Hash Tagging on Facebook” and pretty much laid down the foundation for future rants to come and similar articles. So you could say that it was the beginning of this legacy I have created (not).
It wasn’t massively popular as It was still early days for myself, blogging… But it did end up bringing in some valuable early views. Anyway… A while back, it was pointed out to me that Hash tagging now works on Facebook and so I had to make a decision. Delete, or amend.
Yesterday night, I made the decision to go ahead and delete Blog 36. I realised that it wasn’t the type of post I usually share and therefore would be robbing my regular readers of an entire article in place of a post full of GIF images… If you don’t know what I’m on about, don’t worry. I deleted soon after publishing so you might not have seen it.
Anyway, this gave me a thought… What if I created a secondary blog… One with a niche. I wonder how that would fare compared to this niche-less beast of a blog (barely). So I started thinking… How about technology? My 3 most viewed articles of all time are regarding technology…
I shall show you how to defend yourself in an argument, how to be untouchable. You heard…
I can hear your heart beating faster. I’m glad I’ve got your attention. The answers to life shall be revealed in this very post. The space continuum shall collapse by the time you finish reading this article. Words that should never be uttered will be told and all hell shall break loose.
Psht, Why do you even read the shit I write? Anyway. Back to the subject…
I was on a gap year and I had a desire to express my views… In particular, I wanted to share a story.
The first hurdle for me, was choosing the right blogging platform for myself. Blogger seemed like the obvious option, but immediately I was put off… Same situation with Tumblr, but decided I wasn’t going to be a micro-blogger. Finally, I found WordPress, downloaded the Android app and stuck with it… And boy am I glad that I did.
So I finally typed up the story I had to tell. It was called My Bizarre Experience. I split it into two parts because initially, I wanted the very first readers of my blog to return a few days later. I had chosen a very bad, dark theme at the time and everything was all very… Urm… Amateur. Continue reading →
Unlike usual, The EssWhyDee Blog has had a bit of traffic from web searches the last few days…
People have genuinely searched for the correct uses of “There”, “Their” and “They’re” and ended up on my blog reading my previous Why Bother? article, I feel quite sorry for them actually…
All they got was a sarcastic rant which would’ve just confused them more than before reading it. Unfortunately, I failed to realise that there are many different kinds of people in this world, some that may still be of young age and learning…and others who are just plain thick…
As confusing as the heading is, i’m sure you’ve gathered by now, that my blog is starting to form a structure. Naturally, i’m trying to post as frequently as possible, blogging my thoughts on topics, blogging my past experiences, general rants, And i’m even releasing an ebook this Friday, as a creative exercise for myself, all alongside fitting in my day to day busy lifestyle…(not)
Now, this structure I mentioned, comes in the form of my new categories.. These are helping me arrange my blog posts into different sections. But a particular category I have thoroughly enjoyed writing in so far, is the ‘My Thoughts on Certain Topics’ category(which you can access from the left hand side of my website, under the Calendar).
The more serious topic of euthanasia eh?…where do we start….
It’s a touchy topic, but here’s my two pence(or Cents)
Note: i’m trying my best NOT to make this into an essay style article
Euthanasia, also called “mercy killing” is the painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or an irreversible coma.
Should individuals have the final say WHEN they die, If they are in extreme cases of suffering? In some countries, it’s actually legal…it’s fair to say that indeed it does ‘put them out of their misery’, because by living longer, they’re only going to be suffering more….
But since humans have free will and all, surely an individual is the best judge of his/her actions and is only justifiable to none other, than themselves. This is an act of putting one in control and giving them the final say. it’s a matter of choice. Their life, Their choice.

If there’s one thing in this world that annoys the hell outta me, its hash tagging on Facebook. (#, not the drug)
Firstly it’s perfectly understandable if one would hash tag anywhere other than Twitter, because lets face it, other websites do have the capabilities to link posts based on hashtags… as far as i know, Facebook does not have this capability at the moment, so why do it???
will it make you look cool? are you trying to ‘fit in’? Or do you not understand the mere concept of hash tagging? Continue reading →
OK, so before i get into any humour, controversy or anything else, let me share my experience with you.. its not a story which will frighten you, but its worth a read as it is 100% accurate and true.
It all happened about 3 years ago on the way back home from college… it was a very mild autumn/winter day and it was not very bright outside, for some reason or another, i had finished a little late from college and was taking my usual route home, which by the way had very little people actually walking that way on a daily basis(Now what i mean is, not little people as in midgets, but more of a numerical analogy. glad that’s cleared up). that particular day, there were even less people walking down that main road maybe 1 or 2 on each side, though i cant remember exactly, i know it was really really peaceful, quiet but also quite eerie. so i put my headphones in like normal and set off on my journey. This is basically the same as my About esswhydeeblog page, i thought i might aswell post this to get me started…Enjoy
